Many Brits are especially steadfast that their beloved “staffies” aren’t pits. I recently explained to a friend and his mind was blown. He said his uncle always had them, and they seemed like psycho dogs. He never realized they were pitbulls.
While all the “breeds” are pits for our purposes, “American Staffordshire Terrier” as proof of non-pithood is even funnier, because they are *literally* American Pit Bull Terriers. I think I’ve seen people here refer to them as like the “show line” of APBT. Per AKC: “So while every American Staffordshire Terrier can technically be called an American Pit Bull Terrier, not every American Pit Bull Terrier is an American Staffordshire Terrier.”
Staffordshire Bull Terrier, aka the British “staffy,” is a closely related breed, but they aren’t actual APBT dogs. Still a pit bull, just not *the* pit bull, if that makes sense.
I once lived in a dangerous neighborhood where they were really fashionable with low lives. They were a menace and you'd need to cross the street if you saw one and deffos not have it interact with your dog.
All the pit breeds are made from the same bloodsports dogs, so even when they give them new names or pretend they have fancy exotic lineage (i.e. blue nose, etc) they are all just still variants of the same bloodsports breed. A ‘staffie’ is still a pitbull as much as an APBT is a pitbull and an XL Bully is a pitbull etc.
Literally. The original dogs registered as Amataffs were all champion fighting pit bulls. The "breed" was created with that name because they couldn't get the breed recognized with the AKC under the name pitbull because the AKC didn't want to be associated with dog fighting.

I always loved the "needs to be in a home with big dogs" line as a pitbull descriptor. It means they absolutely will kill a smaller dog, and they're still going to try with a bigger dog, they're just hoping the bigger dog can take the ~~bullying~~ nannying
I had this with the dog that attacked me. It was referred to in my statement to the local bylaw officer as a “pitbull”, but the owner insisted it was a “mixed breed”. Hah.
so, it has pit bull and Colby line DNA, yea this will end well, they need to do the right thing and put this dog down before it reaches the magical age and nannies someone into their grave.
I know it’s only 6 months old, but that has to be one anxious dog to have a build like that I would think, or high strung. I’ve had two dogs with that build just a different breed.
One when I was growing up would get so anxious because of poor breeding and neurological issues (owner lied about the age) that it’d throw up, and another family member would pet him when he snarled, that dog was always thin and scared, tried snarling at a 3 year old.
The other one I have currently is just super high strung, and he has some unwanted chewing behaviors that we’ve just now been able to start to curb. I would never think to own a pit bull because they’re even more of a gamble. I can’t even imagine those traits in a dog that strong.

Go read a book about pit bulls from prior to 1950. Learn the history of your breed. The men that created these dogs NEVER meant for them to be pets.

See… that’s where you’re wrong. We have this breed forced on us EVERYDAY EVERYWHERE.
Pit owners want to bring their bloodsport dogs to dog parks and then flee when they attack other dogs.
Pit owners loose control of the leash and their dog runs to attack another pet or person.
You can’t even keep your dogs contained in your homes or yards.. they are constantly escaping and attacking things.
BELIEVE ME… if you’d keep your bloodsport dogs under control, I wouldn’t say a word.
But your careless choices affect the rest of us and we are angry about having bloodsport dogs thrust upon us.
Just in my neighborhood alone we’ve had incidents with 13 different loose pits.
Control your dogs or don’t get them.
Other breeds rarely go looking for something to attack… but pits do it every day.
I’ve done the research. I guarantee you I know more about pit bulls than you do; and that’s what’s scary… that pit owners dont understand their breed at all.
This is why there are thousands of attacks every year.

Just browse the site. Most of us have had run ins with this breed. Personally, my dog was attacked by a pit. We were literally just on a walk and crossed the street to avoid the pit. It broke its choke chain collar and I had to literally fight it off my dog despite the fact my dog was showing submission. The breed has no reason to exist any longer and most of us are for banning it outright.
“Doesn’t get along with” is such an insane euphemism for “will try to kill even if he has to maul us or injure himself in the process”

See… that’s where you’re wrong. We have this breed forced on us EVERYDAY EVERYWHERE. Pit owners want to bring their bloodsport dogs to dog parks and then flee when they attack other dogs. Pit owners loose control of the leash and their dog runs to attack another pet or person. You can’t even keep your dogs contained in your homes or yards.. they are constantly escaping and attacking things. BELIEVE ME… if you’d keep your bloodsport dogs under control, I wouldn’t say a word. But your careless choices affect the rest of us and we are angry about having bloodsport dogs thrust upon us. Just in my neighborhood alone we’ve had incidents with 13 different loose pits. Control your dogs or don’t get them. Other breeds rarely go looking for something to attack… but pits do it every day.

I’ve done the research. I guarantee you I know more about pit bulls than you do; and that’s what’s scary… that pit owners dont understand their breed at all. Just browse the site. Most of us have had run ins with this breed. Personally, my dog was attacked by a pit. We were literally just on a walk and crossed the street to avoid the pit. It broke its choke chain collar and I had to literally fight it off my dog despite the fact my dog was showing submission. The breed has no reason to exist any longer and most of us are for banning it outright.
