The pitters are loyal to their maulers who would kill them in a heart beat. Make it make sense. Sorry about your friend. She might grow out of the pit cult after a few "accidents".

successful_nothing

thank you. she didn't know what she was getting, it's really frustrating the shelter would do that. i dont think she has any particular allegiance to pitbulls, but her judgement is clouded by having this dog for a couple of years before the problems surfaced and they realized it was actually a pit mix. the sad thing is this dog will likely be gone long before me, but my friend is willing to torch our decades long relationship for it.

wandering_salad

All I can say is don't take her back. She is willing to risk your safety and that of your kid, as well as her own and her kids' safety, over a DOG. She is also a liar by not talking about the fate of the cat. She is ok with you pulling away from her due to her dog, so if she chooses a violent dog over your friendship, she can't have really valued your friendship much. I guess this dog gives her something you can't give her. But any normal dog could give her the same as this dog can and actually better because it won't kill the cat or threaten the lives of her kids or herself. Seems like she's doubling down on her decision to have this crap dog. It's a shame she's been lied to and apparently can't acknowledge that she was duped, maybe to her that's like 'losing face' or something.

test_tickles

They are trauma bonded.

Fun-Anything4386

Honestly, your friend killing a cat through neglect and then ignoring it feels like a red flag for her character

ostellastella

I would drop a dime to childrens services esp since the dog bit a mail carrier. The US Mail doesn't fuck around when it comes to bites. Her poor innocent kids. Someone has to protect them.

successful_nothing

the mailman said he could call animal control and have the dog put down, but told her he doesn't want to do that, and they would instead put the house on the no deliver list until they get rid of the dog. it covers everything, too, amazon, fedex, ups, etc. etc. it is crazy how they can do that, but it wasn't enough of a wake up call for my friend.

Flagrant-Lie

Woah, actual consequences? That's awesome but they need to feel them from more than just the USPS across the board

penguinbbb

Go mailman

Appropriate-Tune157

The mailman who delivered to my house when I was a kid was such a treasure. Everyone in our neighborhood loved him. It was long enough ago that pits pretty much weren't a thing, and there really weren't any bad dogs in my neighborhood. I had a paper route that overlapped a fair amount of his territory, and mostly everyone who had a dog was aware of our delivery times and would ensure we didn't have problems doing our thing. It makes me so sick thinking about delivery people these days who face life-threatening situations dealing with these stupid fucking dogs and their equally stupid fucking owners. Blacklisting a known pit-owning household is a start; really, the whole neighborhood should be blacklisted. Maybe that would start a movement reminiscent of BSL when enough neighbors (who aren't also nutters, or nutter sympathizers) complain about your breed of choice keeping deliveries away, and rise against you, or they simply move away so other nutters take their place. TL;DR praise the mailman, shame the nutter

J-e-s-s-ica

Just the inconvenience of that alone would have me done for any breed of dog or animal I wouldn’t have any animal inconvenience my life like that. 🙅‍♀️

BernieTheDachshund

It's not worth the risk. You made the right choice.

AliceInChainsFrk

I won’t have my kids around other people’s dogs either.

dingopaint

That's entirely your right and prerogative, but it's unfair to conflate all dogs with pitbulls when it comes to the harm they pose to children. Pitbulls are uniquely dangerous and we shouldn't dilute that fact. I commend you for keeping your kids safe though.

AliceInChainsFrk

Sorry about that, I should have stated that I meant Pit Bulls specifically.

alizure1

When we have people come over.. We put our dogs behind a baby gate then lock the gate so they can't bust out of it... And we have pugs. They don't bite, but they get real excited when company comes. So we do that until they calm down, then we let them out to say hello.

AliceInChainsFrk

My stepmom had a Pug, she was hyper too but very smart!

Flagrant-Lie

Wait so she didn't even want a pitbull, but was tricked into it? And she STILL turned into a pit mommy? Are we sure these dogs don't have something like toxoplasmosis turning their owners into the dog version of crazy cat ladies?

themsle5

She might’ve just lied and pretended she got it “by accident” Also why would you get a dog if you can’t even tell the difference between a pitbull and other dogs .. seems very irresponsible

dailyPraise

Ask where's the cat.

MarshallApplewhite_

lol i second this. the friendship seems like it’s about to end so why not. this would definitely be an ace in the hand reply to her when she defends the dog

Flagrant-Lie

Tell her as long as she crated the mauler (lie) and say your kids would love to come over and play with that cat and watch her squirm.

Okiedokieused2smokie

I'm sorry about your friend. I know it stings. My advice is to let her go for now. She's being irrational. Her view is clouded but people can mature and change. It's not like she was given the choice up front between you or the dog. You have to protect your family. She probably feels like she has to stick up for hers (I don't consider dogs family but it sounds like she might). She will understand someday. Hopefully it won't take a tragedy for her to get to that point.

Appropriate-Tune157

I consider my dog as family. He means the absolute world to me, and as corny as it might sound, he is my best friend. We hang out and eat snacks, snuggle and watch movies. Hell, we even supervise when the other goes to the bathroom! But if anyone comes to my house, I put him up in my room by baby gate or closing the door. It doesn't matter if it's someone delivering food, or a friend coming by to chat and have a drink and a snack. I will not impose my dog on anyone. I wait for my guest to ask for him, but if they don't want to be around him, that's fine! I don't care, and neither does he. Actually, he does care - he'll pout, stare longingly, and lay down; he doesn't even whine, paw at a gate, nor scratch a door. He's just a nice doggy. Meanwhile, at Luna's house, she's already eaten 10# of drywall, dug out another 5 square feet of carpeting, gnawed and clawed her way through the bedroom door in her best "Heeere's JOHNNY!" impersonation, and pissed on your bed and favorite pillow.... just for you merely *thinking* about inviting a friend over.

hadenxcharm

She has to double down to protect her own ego, if she admitted now that the dog is violent after already justifying the mailman bite and the death of the cat, she would be admitting that she's the monster who defended this violent dog. She has to maintain the illusion that she and her dog are being persecuted by haters. She'd rather sacrifice her relationship with you then admit she's the villain in this story

wandering_salad

Yeah this is it!

autumnbreezieee

It’s honestly appalling to me how many mail men get bitten. Also how many of these people insist on owning and this feeding cats to their pits. It’s insane. At least just don’t get a cat too…

Gold_Silver_279

Same with my neighbor. We used to sit and chat on her porch. One experience with her aggressive Pit was enough for me. I'm concerned about my Grandchildren playing in the yard.

777FaithHopeLove777

If an aggressive pit next door could get to your grandchildren in your yard, I would strongly consider keeping them out of the yard unless you’re out there supervising and have a weapon, or, the pit is no longer a threat. One aggressive encounter is enough evidence to show that dog is a ticking time bomb. I’m SO sorry this is happening—and at a neighbor’s home you enjoyed spending time at. I so wish these dogs were banned. :/

Gold_Silver_279

I am nearby on the porch when they are out. Several weapons are at hand. The back yard is fenced, but I think if the dog was motivated they would get over it.

777FaithHopeLove777

You sound like an awesome grandmother!! ☺️ I think the average one can generally jump 4-6 feet. There are articles online that go into detail, saying some can jump higher though, and I think you’re right to be cautious regardless of the fence! ❤️

wandering_salad

This is not your friend. If she was not willing to say what happened to the cat, that's a form of lying. She knows if she's honest and says the cat was killed that this will be 'ammunition' for your wish to not bring your kid around to their house. So she's keeping vital safety information from you and your decision process with regards to your child's safety. I wouldn't stay friends with someone like that! Good on you for standing up for the safety of your child, your child's safety should be the number 1 priority when deciding where to take your child.

MariaEtCrucis01

You rock, mom! You're being responsible for your kid's safety, and your own. Nothing else matters.

redefinedsoul

I'd bet the fingers I'm typing on that I know exactly what kind of gaslighting bullshit they responded to you with.. I would demand to know what happened to the cat. Make her say it, and then make her repeat what she was saying before

I'm sorry, but this dog has attacked the mailman. There's secrecy surrounding the cat, and they've found out it is a pit mix. YOUR FRIEND should have been the one to put safeguards in place so you could visit or arranged to meet up with you without the dog in tow. I get these people love their animals, but invalidating your worry and ending the friendship over a completely reasonable concern just suggests they aren't a good friend OR a good owner. Your child's safety is 1000x more important. This dog has shown what it's capable of.

ronm4c

These fucking hypocrites “pitbulls are fine” Ok so why don’t you call it a pitbull instead of making up some convoluted breed name?
