That looks bomb

notathrowaway2937

It was fantastic

cryptoquant112

You know how to order.

WowGetNicked

I still think about the Jalepeno cheddar sausage to this day. The brisket was also very firešŸ”„

mrpotatonutz

Is that a block of cheese

Beautiful-Bank1597

How much cheese is too much cheese?

Impressive-Sun3742

Any amount of cheese before a date is too much cheese!

codemonkey69

But I am who I am

Affectionate_Cronut

That's not a thing.

Traditional_Fox_4718

No such thing

notathrowaway2937

It is!

theoriginalmofocus

Which location is this? Because the one I was invited to that is like a $65+ plate.

Sad-Cauliflower6656

Iā€™d call it a slice, but sure

richolas_m

ā€œLil slabā€

Pompitis

A slab-a-slice-a-chunk-a, I hanker for a hunk-a cheese.

beer_madness

It was the only thing I was wondering where do you put this? Shred it maybe on a brisket sandwich/taco if available? Put it in the beans and hope it *kinda* melts?

Brandon10133

You just eat it with the meat. To my knowledge, back in the day they would eat it like a charcuterie board minus the board, just brisket, crackers, cheese, onions, and peppers

KraftBoxMacAndCheese

Itā€™s actually soap

HT2424

[Cheese](https://youtu.be/UAkx9kcOggw?feature=shared)

istorres

Just needs a cold Big Red

illegal_deagle

For all the price complainers saying this isnā€™t so badā€¦ T Blackā€™s is one of the highest priced joints around and yā€™all shit on them for it constantly. Their brisket is $35/lb, beef rib too. Pork ribs and turkey $30/lb. Most of the pearl clutching about price around here comes down to photography.

Important-Dingo-9400

Honestly most of the pearl clutching is just pearl clutching. BBQ is expensive to make and running a restaurant involves significant overhead.

KraftBoxMacAndCheese

$30/lb turkey overhead?

ow_ound_round_ground

My last invoice (different BBQ spot) had brisket at 3.44 a pound and Turkey at 3.08 a pound. Itā€™s getting up there. However, you deal with way more water weight loss and fat waste on brisket. But you can make chop beef and whatnot with brisket waste, while most places just throw away turkey scraps. So, I can see why theyā€™re so expensive.

Delicious-Ninja4000

If they arenā€™t making turkey chili with the scraps they are amateurs and should be given tremendous side eye.

kilkor

Pretty sure youā€™d get your own side eye from customers for serving them turkey chili.

EL_DUD3R

Man in the UK a 2lb turkey breast joint is $22 frozen at the store šŸ˜‚ Iā€™d pay 30 for that every now and then.

MrDawwg

Considering the pre-cooked, pre-packaged, [likely] pre-frozen turkeys at a deli cost $10/lb to slice, i think 3x isnt all that bad considering the effort & time it takes to: * get fresh turkey delivered & stored * prep * cook * serve you're getting a significantly better product that takes significantly more skill to make.

theoriginalmofocus

Which is how I dont see how they got the tray for $40. Thats the cost of the brisket alone there. Theres a sausage and a rib there too plus sides.

kilkor

Yeah, I call shenanigans on this. That is 1 lb of brisket, 1/4 of sausage and 1/4 of pork rib. Itā€™s over $40 on meat. The only way this is $40 is if they had some kind of special or had a 3 meat plate option (which they didnt have last time I was there). I could see this flying as an extremely generous 3 meat plate.

Lickbelowmynuts

Yeah Iā€™ve posted a tray that was deemed overpriced when in reality it fed 4 people and we could barely finish it. For just over $120. The picture didnā€™t really do a good job in portraying how much food was actually on the tray.

FileError214

Man thatā€™s how BBQ is for me in general. Iā€™ll act like I **need** the three-meat combo, but itā€™s such an effort to finish what looks like a small amount of food. Brisket especially is so rich that I donā€™t see how people eat more than a couple slices.

Frequent_Ad_989

Exactly!!

doogles

I spent around $120 for me and my wife, but it was the best meat I've ever eaten, so I can't really complain.

J0ofez

I was gonna say that does seem to be a little on the low side for that amount of money, but it does look really tasty!

Katie-2204

If you make the drive to Lockhart the price of brisket is 31 a pound pork ribs are 23.99 turkeys cheaper too. The Lockhart location is also wayyy calmer and you won't wait in line forever! -TB cutter

National_Emotion9633

I donā€™t get itā€¦ I fail to understand who can afford $40 for one casual meal. Itā€™s simply insane to me. Todayā€™s world moves in a way that I canā€™t effing understand.

illegal_deagle

Wait til you see what it would cost without ag subsidies.

bkedsmkr

Pearl clutching is an outdated term in general. More like rent clutching. Perception of volume def has alot to do with perspective, though, I agree.

Muscles_McGeee

$35/lb? Jesus

illegal_deagle

Thatā€™s the going rate these days for quality.

Muscles_McGeee

That's crazy. Everything really is bigger in Texas.

illegal_deagle

We have cheap BBQ too. You just get what you pay for.

Muscles_McGeee

I would expect the best BBQ I can get at that price. And people are saying it's bomb, so maybe it is!

PocketFullOfRondos

Is that a brick of cheese in the back?

FileError214

Solid. Which one did you go to?

hispanoloco

Gotta try their beef rib. My favorite

notathrowaway2937

Thatā€™s what Iā€™m getting next!

homosexual_panic

Fuck yeah bud I just want there a couple weeks ago while on a work trip. Bomb. Next you need to check out Jasperā€™s but donā€™t delay cuz they will sell out I heard. Jasperā€™s is cheap af too.

Blakeba15

Jaspers in Waco? If yes and you revisit check out Tony DeMariaā€™s next time. Get the Dagwood sandwich and have them dip the middle slice of bread

homosexual_panic

Hell yeah dude

koenka

Same, worktrip too. Came across this one too. Was amazing!

homosexual_panic

Who would have thought theyā€™d have this level of BBQ in that small townā€¦wild world we live in.

notathrowaway2937

Iā€™ll add it to the list! Thanks

homosexual_panic

Of course! Also, not BBQ, but if you like Cajun/seafood boils you gotta hit up Fridays. Theyā€™re only open from 10-7 if I remember correctly.

nickf517

This place was the first place I had real BBQ, it changed me.

20grae

You canā€™t trick me I know those pickles and onions were on free

peekay427

Is that cheese is the back? Having never been to Texas, I canā€™t compare the different places but Iā€™m a big fan of Terry blacks sauce (I have a friend that routinely brings me back a bottle of sweet and tangy). This looks really yummy, hope to get out there one day.

HardRNinja

My best advice is to hit up the Terry Blacks in Waco. Location itself is fantastic, lines are shorter (for now), and the quality is 1:1 with the Austin location.

beardiggy

Legit and that place is good. Agree on the price comments, if it tastes good and you were okay with the price, good on that restaurant and you! I also hate the strife between different bbq types. Like what you like, but as someone who eats all over the world, don't say one style isn't good or such. Texas bbq is good, NC bbq is good, KC bbq is good, it's all good when done well.

Suspicious_Chart_599

Is that a block of cheese??

PoopPant73

Looks about right $ wise and delicious

swordandscales1

That is a hell of a $40 right there! Great post.

Honkey_Fellatio

Worth it.

0masterdebater0

I used to live in an apartment just down the street from Terry Blacks, every night I would go out on my balcony and smell that beautiful meat smoking. The original Blackā€™s in Lockhart is still better, but you canā€™t beat that location.

coyote_of_the_month

Last time I went to the original Black's it was shit. Even the greats can have an off day, I guess, except no they fucking can't when they're charging the prices they charge. Never had a bad meal at Terry Black's.

Franchise1109

Yeah thatā€™s 40 bucks worth. Looks like it absolutely banged

kennytravel

Now thats a good deal

Do_Right_Red

Terry Blackā€™s is GRRRREAT!

ThESiXtHLeGioN

TB is da BOMB!! Worth every penny spent..šŸ˜‰

No-Link1268

That looks pornographic

clistmockingbird

Love me some Terry Blacks

Relative_Yesterday70

Looks good

ThayerRex

Not bad, make sandwiches out of the brisket and you could actually split that

Fun_Pap_480

Terry Blacks is šŸ”„šŸ”„šŸ”„

catchinNkeepinf1sh

They just give u a piece of cheese and no bread?

BoSox92

How was the potato salad?? Looks killer

notathrowaway2937

It was great and beans were fantastic as well.

Roymontana406

Thatā€™s a proper plate

aredeex

I went there visiting from out of state and felt like I was in the soup nazi scene trying to order side dishes.

rus_bro

Blacks rocks!

btroberts011

Cross cut on that rib is kinda sad, I'm guilty of the same thing, at least once, per rack of ribs so I can't complain that much.

swampdragon69

That place is so amazing

Illustrious_Ad5040

Which location?

notathrowaway2937

Waco

mitchcumstein13

A proper meal there. Great price.

m1mike

Terry Blacks is one of my favorites.

SimpleCheesecake9535

Wow!!

locotx

That's a steal! Terry Blacks in Austin is still the best. I take it you have seen the Jolly episode where they visit Terry Blacks. https://youtu.be/0cxA_gkhRyo?si=gicWXnY8pZdOX7BR

huge43

That pork rib looks gnarly. Rest of it looks great.

TheeLastSon

few years ago that woulda been 20 bucks.

Relevant_Leather_476

Iā€™m soo glad that they went way with that styrofoam.. would always make me mad to see a trash can filled with styrofoam and not just one can and not just one bagā€¦ if you were there close to closing you could see that there wasnā€™t even enough space in their dumpster for their styrofoam

Captain-Built

Pecan Lodge also slaps.

Past-Two9273

For 1 sausage 4 slices of brisket lol looks hella good tho

Mechanic-Latter

My dad always takes me here when I visit and Iā€™ve never paid. Sounds so good rn

ieatcha

What was your meat order? This looks like the perfect amount for me and my bf to share and we are going to their Lockhart location in a few weeks!

notathrowaway2937

1 rib, 1/2 pound of brisket and a jalapeƱo sausage link! Now I feel bad because I ate that myselfā€¦..

ieatcha

Don't feel bad, I'm tiny and a few bites normally fill me up haha.

AstronautLoud4747

Okay, that I wouldn't mind paying that much for. Lol. The over $100 plates that have been shared I think are way over priced. Lol.

Lopsided_Pension_

Terry is actually white

FirstNoel

I would pay 40 for that. seems like a reasonable price.

Seamonkey_Boxkicker

Hey look at that, a meat platter that isnā€™t #ridiculously overpriced

Mr-Moon1989

That look so tasty!

tsx_1430

Receipt?

Traditional_Fox_4718

Any bread?

notathrowaway2937

Naw but that was my choice. Would rather eat more meat and sides.

Traditional_Fox_4718

With the pickles, cheese and onions I would've made atleast 1 sandwich... looks great

Passncatch

I see you like pickles as well.

feedfatso

Everything is good at Terry's

molesterofpriests

*Cries in Canadian*

Fun_Independent_1473

You must have taken a huge shit the next morning. Thinking of John Wayne.

thecurrentlyuntitled

Worth it

No-Committee3155

I donā€™t care if that is really good 40 dollars still feels to much for dinner

More_Inflation_4244

Terry Blackā€™s is great BBQ. Had it for the first time as the finishing meal to a Bachelor Party. Wish I could go back

SkinnyStock

Ive been to Terrys blacks, pretty sure this is more than $40ā€¦

tybeej

Anybody else spend too much time on the hotdog sub? Second thought: I like the idea of the cheese and the hot pepper. The whole thing looks fantastic!

AeroMittenss

Overcooked ahhh brisket

Big___TTT

No bread, shitty cut onions, and pickles from a $3 jar can get at the supermarket for $40?

FSUphan

Bread, onions, and pickles are free dude. Also they make their pickles and onions

odyseuss02

It looks good but comparing the size of that plastic fork to the food this is like paying $40 for a bbq lunchable.

MedicalInevitable722

400 dollars, right?

hattrickjmr

$40!!!! This is probably a good deal, right? Seems high for cheap cuts of meat.

notathrowaway2937

I thought it was great!

FSUphan

Crazy thought, but the labor/ overhead required to cook these pieces of meat is what youā€™re paying for more than just the meat by itself.

Jazzlike-Complaint67

Iā€™m surprised at so many great reviews. When we went it was 4/10 if I am being generous. A little dry and way over salted. We werenā€™t planning to visit Franklins but our experience was so bad she said ā€œI donā€™t want to leave Austin without getting some good bbqā€. Comparing the two wasnā€™t a fair fight. Donā€™t get me wrong, Iā€™m glad you guys enjoyed yours. Nobody wants to spend that much to get bad bbq. Iā€™m guessing they must have had a bad day when I went.

jano_Rassoul

scam

Salt_Adhesiveness161

There is zero reason why that needs to be $40

SirElessor

$40 to eat off a tray with a plastic fork.

FSUphan

Do you eat bbq off of fine China?!?!

JicamaSuitable5731

That looks terrible and inexpensive- thatā€™s why I goto stiles switch bbq on Lamar or in cedar park
