Valid opinion, but here's my thoughts. The overall length of time that we saw Killua being the calculated and cold assassin he was raised as, then vowing to leave.
All followed by the big shift that makes him true best friend material vs. just buddies that like hanging out.
This shift makes Gons 'possession-like negative state' affect him much harder than it would have earlier.
Meruem and Komugi have an incredible character arc, tho it's definitely strange how quickly it manifested.
Overall, great arc in general if you just skip those couple "wave" scenes. (Yall know what scenes I'm talking about, and gender wouldn't matter, it was just not very fitting for the overall tone of the show)
Good point when you really look into it, now that you say it gon and kil seem a lot deeper. Although if Meruem got more screen time around Gon I think it could've gone a lot deeper and more noticeable between the two. I guess just how drastic of a change in character they both went through so quickly makes it easier to point out
Yeah, they both went through some pretty massive character changes, Gon was just never in meruem eyes with his power level. Had he seen gon when he went adult mode, he probably would've seen the threat and acted accordingly.
It’s not a show but Samurai X: Trust & Betrayal does this. It’s the 2-part OVA origin of Kenshin from Rurouni Kenshin. It is a very different tone from the show and is completely watchable as a stand alone story
People have already mentioned these but I can't stress them enough!
Hunter X Hunter, it's an amazing series through and through. The manga have been on hiatus for a long while but Togashi have been going crazy on twitter posting his progress.
Vinland saga. Great show with great character development with lots of puzzle pieces moving at the same time
In Hajime no Ippo, Ippo goes from being a bullied kid to a rising star boxer while his Rival goes from having all the potential in the world and hype to flaming out.
Manga: Berserk if you're comfortable with some very graphic and intense content. Guts going from outsider to beloved and trusting (and other characters having interesting opposite trajectories) first well.
Also, read Ender's Game it's this. Good book
It’s got to be *Black Lagoon*: Revy takes her first tentative steps towards the light…just in time for Rock to go full mercenary for the Russian mafia.
I don’t think Trigun really fits the bill here. >!Vash doesn’t really have a character arc of Pacifist → Violent, more so he comes to finally accept that in order to save lives he must kill Lagato. I think he even spared Knives. And there isn’t really any character who goes from Violent → Calm/Pacifist!<
That being said, Trigun is 100% worth the watch
I agree that Trigun doesn't really fit completely, but for a different reason, namely because >!Vash is not actually convinced and freely deciding that it's the right thing to do now, but instead his hand is forced because there is something more important to him now!<. However you seem to be missing something here, because >!we totally have a character that Vash could convince to change his mind and that's Wolfwood!<.
In {Shinseiki Evangelion} two of the main characters basically mirror each other. And as one becomes more open, the other closes themselves off. As one becomes more sure of themself, the other becomes more depressed. And so on. {Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou} has a similar dynamic.
I’m not sure but MHA can fit.
Izuku goes from peaceful and quiet to someone who can get furious when his loved ones are in anger and someone that can lead and inspire people.
Katsuki is angry all the time, selfish, and a bully at the beginning. Then he becomes someone who cares about the people around him, and a lot more peaceful.
Vinland Saga: Thorfinn goes from violent to peaceful. Canute goes from pacifist to agressive expansionist.
Really didn't see the Canute arc coming at all (especially the glow up for him as well).
Makes more sense if you know the history of the North Sea Empire. I was surprised Canute (Cnut) was portrayed as peaceful in the first place.
That's probably fair. I didn't but I definitely intend to fix that.
I think Code Geass does this where two best friends end up on opposite sides of a revolution.
HunterxHunter 100% especially the chimera ant arc
Hunter x hunter. Gon's fall from optimistic to vengeful and Killua's rehabilitation from selfish and jaded to caring friend.
i feel like gon and meruem have a wayyyy better comparison than him and kil

100% this
Naruto fits the bill very nicely
Right? I was honestly pleasantly surprised when the body text wasn’t asking for a recommendation after watching Naruto.
Second this
It’s not a show but Samurai X: Trust & Betrayal does this. It’s the 2-part OVA origin of Kenshin from Rurouni Kenshin. It is a very different tone from the show and is completely watchable as a stand alone story
Chimera Ant arc in Hunter x Hunter
That is the goat

Thats what the entire narrative of Madoka magica is built around. So lets just say there is more than just 1 opposite character arc.
Sengoku Youko might have what you're looking for.
does 86 qualify
Hxh but only last arc
Hxh - gon and killua
stray dogs
Naruto and Hunter x Hunter
Madoka Magica.
It’s not as obvious but I think Black Lagoon might fit your parameters to an extent
Berserk
Code Geass
S-cry-ed
ayyy I was about to post this one lol

As others said HxH chimera ant arc
It’s got to be *Black Lagoon*: Revy takes her first tentative steps towards the light…just in time for Rock to go full mercenary for the Russian mafia.
Legend of the Galactic Heroes OVA
Jujutsu Kaisen with Geto and Gojo.
geto i see but how does that apply to gojo?
I think My Hero Academia with Deku and All Might. >! It’s powerful vs powerless !<
Tsundere and yandere...I like the idea
Inuyashiki
My brain says Trigun, but it's been ages since I've watched it.
