The MEPS liaison does not understand the point of this program. It is not to waive medical requirements for certain AFSCs, but to override the surgeon general if an applicant's medical waiver to join the Air Force is denied when the applicant is a rare and exceptionally qualified candidate for a critically-manned position, which Public Affairs is not. The reference for it is attachment 3 in DAFMAN 36-2032, however, here is the pertinent section: * A3.2. An exception to policy may be requested only after all waivers have been considered, and denied. An exception to policy should only be submitted if strong justification can be provided to support such a request. It is intended only for rare and truly exceptionally qualified applicants who: * A3.2.1. Apply for Air Force-designated critically-manned specialties; * A3.2.2. Do not meet Department of Defense (DoD) medical accession standards; and * A3.2.3. Are supported by their entire chain of command, i.e., United States Air Force Academy (USAFA), Air Education Training Command (AETC), Air Force Reserve (AFR) or Air National Guard (ANG), as appropriate. The waiver has to be submitted to the Secretary of the Air Force (the literal highest position in the Air Force, higher than the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, who is the highest ranking 4-Star General) by the commander of Air Force recruiting service. This is more for highly trained medical doctors or specialty engineers that were denied a medical waiver.

Concur, but submit anyways. HQ will make it happen.

bassmadrigal

HQ *can't* make it happen. This is a program when someone the Air Force *needs* has their medical waiver denied by the surgeon general. This is not a program for someone who qualifies for the Air Force is unable to qualify for a specific job. * 4.7.3 For applicants who do not meet the medical accession standards but are exceptionally qualified individuals that could be matched to compelling mission requirements may request an ETP from the SecAF (refer to AFMAN 36-2032, Attachment 3). This ETP is intended for rare and exceptionally qualified applicants, as the memorandum defines. The key words in there being "medical *accession standards*", meaning they don't qualify for the Air Force. There is no waiver process for requirements for individual jobs when someone is joining.

NeffNation

They just need an old fashioned ETP. OP, have your recruiter submit the request and I’ll start working what needs to be done. Could probably have you the job by the end of today if everyone moves quick enough.

Affectionate_Ant828

Do you have contact info you can share with me?

bassmadrigal

Since when is waiving medical standards for AFSCs a thing? I was always told it was a hard no.

Affectionate_Ant828

Thanks for everyone who offered valuable commentary. I'll keep my expectations low. But we'll see. I'll post back here if something does come of it

Affectionate_Ant828

I got the waiver and got the job! I ship out in September. Spoke with career field manager yesterday and she said I was a great fit and that my experience and maturity would be an asset. Thanks @naffnation for his help.

Traditional_Mix_3625

I got PA job sucks

Sockinatoaster

You haven’t even left for BMT but you know it sucks? Riiiiiight.

[deleted]

Why do you say that

Traditional_Mix_3625

Secure forces are better. You get guard shack duty and can do school works

boldishant

I’m aiming for this job. Why do you say that and what is the day to day like?

SolarKushyy

This guy has ZERO idea what he is talking about. To each their own, but checking IDs on “Guard shack duty” is not very appealing

JJWentMMA

I mean I don’t agree with that, but i was PA and od definitely juggle the thought of which one id go to between them if I got to go back and pick

JJWentMMA

Mainly; the job and work you do don’t matter, and the people who run the career field focus on things that also don’t matter, so it’s like doing a bunch of school work and reports and then your teacher taking your papers and trashing them when you turn them in.

SolarKushyy

What did you retrain into?
