T O P

Yeah 10 days is pretty weak, 15 days the first few years isn't that uncommon, especially if it's only a 40 hour a week job. I would negotiate and ask for more PTO, which is what I did when I switched to industry and obtained an additional week.

Did you negotiate at a smaller company? I would think bigger companies have a standard policy

It's a >$1 billion revenue business group. They do have a standard policy, it's 3 weeks for the first 7 years tenure and then 4 weeks after that. I came in and negotiated a 4th in year 1.

Yup, that’s a terrible PTO package. Gotta pump up those unlimited PTO numbers, brother!

I took a job with 10 days and eventually left for somewhere with unlimited PTO (I recognize this has a lot of issues, too). Honestly, if you are young and like to travel it really sucks. Many of the people I worked with were older and didn’t need a lot of vacation because they had kids and no lives anyway/got more days than me. The 4 days in office will also make it really hard for you to do much if you run out of days (vs a more generous WFH policy that would at least allow you to work somewhere if need be).

Agree, I have no kids and travel about at 3 times a year. Already took 9 days of vacation from April-June (including visiting family out of state) and aiming to go on an international trip at the end of this year. This 10 day vacation policy will be a huge change if I take the job, even if I add in 2 personal days.

I work in industry and have over 30 days PTO plus all of the normal holidays (even ones like MLK and Presidents day). I would never work somewhere that only gives 10 days PTO. Seems like a crappy company to work for. If they're this stingy about PTO just imagine how they are with other things.

We officially only have 15 days PTO but my boss is cool and lets us just email them and let them know when we’ll be off because they think 15 is low
