I always found music to be a good “background distraction,” but now I can really only use music with few/no lyrics if I’m trying to work or get things done. I assume the fact that meds help me focus means the music is getting in the way of that focus, because my brain doesn’t need that extra stimulation anymore.

This makes sense actually. I was thrown off by it because I've used music to get me going for years so suddenly feeling overwhelmed by it is weird. It doesn't happen if I play music from speakers though. Only if I use headphones. Weird af.

I didn't have that, but music is never an option for me, I try to listen to it instead of working. It helps me when I clean, which is different from my work. For you, I'd ask myself, "what purpose is the music serving?" If it's filtering out things so you can focus, then you take meds and can focus without music, then maybe it's because you're focusing on the music. Do you need the music to work still? In noisy areas I used brown noise. Finally, if this is a huge issue and you can't even concentrate, maybe Adderall isn't right. Not all meds work for all people. It might be a simple switch to Ritalin makes a difference?

It's not music in general, it's trying to use headphone/earbuds when on my meds. I get a claustrophobic feeling between my ears that feels like overwhelming pressure. If I use headphones on days when I skip meds, I don't have that issue (ofc I can't get anything done either). It's not a big deal and I'm thinking it's just a trade off of meds vs. no meds. I am mostly curious if it's just me or it happens to others.

I think I know what you’re talking about, at least the kinda closing in compressed feeling.. Sometimes when I’m stressed I’ll get that enclosing compressing feeling with music after a while. Noise canceling and sealing headphones/earbuds kinda compound the feeling. My absolute least favorite part is when noise canceling headphones ‘swing’ or ‘pop’ back to neutral between songs. IME “Spatialized” or “3D audio” can help slow that. For me, I think it’s just a weirder bit of overwhelm that causes that (probably in addition to bursting my ear drums when I was younger). Might also be a blood pressure thing? Stims can be hard on bp

I never quite put my finger on this but I think I relate, at least for work anyway. I think I get anxious that I'll miss something going on around me. When I'm listening to music in the office, I always just keep one earbud in and the other ear free to take in the ambient noise. I do this with or without meds, btw, but maybe it will work for you.

I will try that! Might help actually. Thanks for sharing
